Operational Consultant (Director)
Barry is a very experienced mining and drill & blast consultant with over 38 years of invaluable international experience across both mining and explosives environments. He has worked for, and with, major mining houses and established explosives companies. He is a highly focused person with a comprehensive knowledge of different mining operations and drilling & blasting, with specific focus on safety, economy, reliability, quality and sustainability. He has a consistent track record of successfully proving from the concept and detail of blast designs through to implementation, testing and monitoring the outcomes. He has demonstrated that he is very able to work and relate with colleagues, senior managers and company executives. Barry has a National Diploma in Mining from Technikon Witwatersrand, a BCom (HR) from Unisa, South African Government Certificates of Competency and a range of Blasting Certificates, both surface and underground. Barry also has a range of certificates and diplomas relating the Mine operations, covering Safety, Quality and Environmental Controls and Explosives Engineering. Barry’s main areas of focus are on Surface and Quarry Blasting Operations. Apart from English Barry can communicate in a number of languages, including Afrikaans, Dutch, Bahasa Indonesia, Working French and functional Zulu. Barry is a past long distance road runner and has completed 4 Comrades Marathons, three Two Oceans marathons and a Dusi Canoe Marathon, but today prefers the more sedentary activities in life such as supporting his favourite Football and Rugby Teams, as well as Golf.
Pat is a seasoned professional with extensive surface & underground mining background in management, operations, production, training and Research & Development. Pat has worked in a number of highly challenging environments and has held senior positions in major mining houses and explosives companies. Pat is a graduate of Mining Technology from Haileybury School of Mines, and has attended courses in Accounting, Economics, History, Psychology, and Geography at Waterloo University, Ontario. Pats main area of focus is in Underground Drilling and Blasting, where he has an extensive working knowledge. Apart from English, Pat can communicate in French and Spanish.
Stephen (Steve) is a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer with specific exposure to safe manufacturing systems across the whole of the explosives product range, from Initiation Product through to Bulk Explosives and Ammonium Nitrate. Steve has held senior engineering responsibilities for more than 20 years. Before taking early retirement Steve was the Group/Company Engineering Manager for AEL Limited. Steve is a graduate of the Witwatersrand University (BSc Mech Eng) and the University of Cape Town (UCT) where he obtained his Masters degree in the same discipline. Steve also possesses a South African Government Certificate of Competency (Factories), as well as an EDP (Wits). Steve is a Professional Member of the Engineering Council of South Africa (PrEng). Steve main area of focus in on Plant Manufacturing Safety (including Bulk Explosives Delivery Units) inspections and audits.>
Karol, an Australian Mining Engineer, has twenty years of experience in open pit iron ore and gold mining industry in Australia, five years in gold mining in West Africa (Mali and Senegal) and three years in Suriname. His main focus was on managing technical staff, production planning and consulting environments.
Karol has managed a team of technical professionals to provide quality mine technical services in the areas of business planning, mine engineering, production reporting, directing and coordinating activities concerned with mine production to ensure the mine output is as per mining plan. Technical experience includes equipment selection, cost estimation and financial evaluations, pit and dump optimizations and designs, computerized mine planning and scheduling.
Karol also has extensive experience as a Lead Competent Person for reporting of ore reserves under JORC and SEC rules and ore reserves and mine planning risk assessment under SOX.
Karol is skilled in using Datamine (CAE) and Whittle Optimisation software, more than any other mining packages, he has also skills using XPAC, TALPAC, Vulcan, MineMax, Comet and AutoCAD and to a lesser degree Microlynx, Minesched and Surpac in design, planning and scheduling and mine optimisation work.
During the past few years while in the role of Engineering Superintendent, he was responsible for managing Mine Engineering group consisting of 11 expatriates, 25 national engineers and 18 labourers.
